At Camp Nesher, the safety and physical well being of our campers and staff is our number one priority. Our Health Center is equipped with 2 private exam rooms, a triage room and beds for campers to rest.
Our medical staff consists of a doctor, registered nurses, and a camp “mother.” Together, they oversee the medical care of our campers including those with unique situations such as allergies, chronic health issues, and those requiring regular medication. Our Health Center is staffed 24 hours a day and our doctor and nurses live on campus to ensure appropriate care. Campers are encouraged to come in for a visit when they (or their counselors) think they need medical assistance. Nurses dispense medications at mealtimes and before bed from the Health Center. We are also only a short distance from several hospitals including Wayne County Memorial in Honesdale, PA and CMC in Scranton, PA.
Our staff understand that campers away from home with a health issue often need an extra dose of “tender loving care.” It is essential that our staff have not only the required credentials but the right temperament as well, to work with children.
The simple goal of our dining room is to provide nutritious and well balanced meals that kids will enjoy eating. Our 3 separate kitchens include dairy, meat and pareve and are under the constant supervision of our Mashgiach. We strongly believe that food is an essential part of how a camper enjoys their summer.
We strive to put together a Glatt kosher menu that is both diverse and nutritionally sound. Of course, we realize that not every child is going to like every meal – that’s why we make sure that we always have multiple options available. For those campers celebrating a birthday, we make sure to give them a cake along with a big round of singing “Happy Birthday!”
At breakfast, we offer a full cereal bar, with 6-8 cereal choices, fresh fruit, yogurt and freshly cut oranges and grapefruits. At lunch and dinner we offer a salad bar, plain pasta and marinara, whole wheat and white bread, peanut-butter & jelly and fresh fruit. These items complement our hot entrees.
We are a nut-sensitive camp, only serving peanut butter in individual single- serve portions. We also do our very best to cater to campers with other food allergies or sensitivities including those to Gluten products. Vegetarians will always have an option offered to them at meat meals.
To complement our 3 meals, we offer a daily snack and another snack before bed with fresh fruit always available to any camper all day long. We also encourage campers to bring their own water bottles to stay hydrated throughout the day.
