Our Health Center

At Camp Nesher, we take the health and well-being of both our campers and staff very seriously. Our Health Center is an air conditioned building, equipped with a private exam room, medication room, triage room, and individual beds. Our medical staff, consisting of a doctor, three registered nurses and an administrator, reside in Camp and are on call 24 hours a day.

Sick Call takes place daily after lunch – campers are encouraged to come in for a visit when they (or their counselors) think they need medical attention. Our medical staff dispense medications from the Health Center, as required, at mealtimes as well as before our campers return to their bunks for the night. In the event that additional medical services are required, both Wayne County Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA and Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA are located nearby.

Should a camper be admitted or in the event of certain unique medical circumstances, parents are notified in a timely fashion as determined by our staff. We take to heart that children away from home often need an extra dose of tender loving care and, if not feeling well, even more so. Our staff understand that and, as parents themselves, go that extra mile to provide comfort for a child who is far from home.

Nutrition

Because campers are constantly on the go during the summer, it’s extremely important that they eat right to maintain their health and energy. We strive to put together a menu that is both diverse and nutritionally sound. Of course, we realize that not every child is going to like every meal. For this reason, we make sure that we always have multiple options available. Our dedicated specialty food liaison is on-hand at mealtimes for those who might need that extra assistance in finding something to eat.

At breakfast, we offer a full cereal bar, fresh fruit, and yogurt. At lunch and dinner, we offer a full salad bar, pasta, and fresh fruit. These items complement our hot entrees. Campers celebrating a birthday receive a cake along with a big round of “Happy Birthday!”

We are a nut-sensitive camp and avoid using peanuts, tree nuts, and the like at all meals. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available for those who require it. If your child has food allergies or intolerances, please contact us to learn about the different options we can provide.
